Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus, known on X as Shibetoshi Nakamoto has posed a critical question on Artificial General Intelligence, AGI. Taking to X, Nakamoto sought to sample the opinions of his followers and possibly spark a debate in the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Dogecoin Founder’s AGI Question
As per Markus’s poser, he had asked if people were optimistic about AGI and its role in the next ten years. Or were they doubtful of the technology or concerned about its use and implications in human society?
are you more optimistic, more concerned, or more doubtful of AGI in the next 10 years?

Notably, AGI is a theoretical research area that is determined to design software capable of engaging in self-learning as it possesses human-like intelligence. The overall objective is to enable the software to carry out various functions without necessarily programming it to do such tasks.
AGI is more advanced than Artificial Intelligence, AI, given that the idea is for computer software to self-teach itself, and perform tasks from past experiences.
Although the Dogecoin founder did not elaborate on his poser, techies think that Nakamoto was trying to draw attention to the implications of AGI such as job loss, ethical considerations, and general use to benefit humanity.
Although it is still a theoretical concept, achieving the successful creation of AGI will require larger data, interconnectivity, and memory to replicate human-like learning abilities in software.
The Concerns on Current AI Technology
Earlier in May, Billy Markus on X had highlighted some implications of current AI technology. Markedly, he pointed out that the integration of AI into search engines could negatively affect businesses that rely on traffic to their sites. This will result in the downsizing of the workforce.
Additionally, he stated that facts will be watered down and professionalism may be sacrificed given that AI models will get trained by relying on random comments from people who are not experts in a particular field.
While the debate on the pros and cons of AGI is on, Elon Musk’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) venture, xAI made headlines recently over a substantial $6 billion funding from investors. It is not clear yet if xAI will explore AGI in the near future.
